§ Mr. Wareingasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many representations he has received expressing concern at cuts in real expenditure on the facilities for combating cancer at the Clatterbridge hospital in Cheshire; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeI have received six letters from hon. Members, five letters from members of the general public, and the Junior Hospital Doctors Association of the BMA has also written to the Prime Minister. I do not agree with the simplistic and alarming claims made in that letter and have placed a copy of it and my reply in the Library of the House together with my press release. As I made clear to the hon. Member for Liverpool, Mossley Hill (Mr. Alton) in my reply on 1 March 1984 at column336, Mersey RHA agreed at its last meeting to increase both revenue and capital expenditure on cancer facilities at Clatterbridge hospital.
