HC Deb 07 March 1984 vol 55 c579W
Mr. Skeet

asked the hon. Member for Berwick-upon-Tweed, as representing the House of Commons Commission, what is the number of trade unions operating within the House and the total staff of the Commission; and what information he has as to the percentage of trade unionists in the principal Departments of the House.

Mr. Beith

There are six trade unions operating within Departments of the House; the total number of staff employed by the Commission is approximately 950, including part-time workers. Membership of the six trade unions is thought to be about 65 per cent. of staff of House Departments.
