§ Mr. Roger Kingasked the Secretary of State for Transport how many heavy goods vehicle and public service vehicle drivers have been reported in 1983 for (a) driver hour infringements and (b) excessive speed as a direct result of routine Ministry of Transport tachograph examinations.
§ Mrs. ChalkerIn 1983, the Department' s traffic examiners detected offences against the drivers' hours 593W provisions of regulation EC543/69 and of the Transport Act 1968 by 19,960 heavy goods vehicles and 1,120 passenger service vehicles. Tachograph records are not used as uncorroborated evidence in prosecution for speeding.
