§ Mr. Fisherasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is his policy towards the resolution of the United Nations Food and Agriculture organisation approving the worldwide exchange of plant breeding stocks, and calling for an international body to oversee the conservation and use of the genetic resources of plants; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. WhitneyWe are at present waiting for the Director General of FAO formally to transmit the resolutions and linked international undertaking on plant genetic resources to Her Majesty's Government. We fully support the principle that plant genetic resources should be available without restriction and it is against this criteria that we shall make our final judgment on the resolutions and linked undertaking.
