HC Deb 07 March 1984 vol 55 c598W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list the numbers unemployed and the corresponding vacancies for each industrial, commercial and administrative classification in (a) Merseyside, (b) Kirkby and (c) Prescot.

Mr. Alan Clark

Analyses of unemployment by industry are no longer available from the unemployment count, as claimants' records do not contain the necessary information.

The following table gives the numbers of notified vacancies remaining unfilled at jobcentres in the areas specified, analysed according to the 1968 standard industrial classification. The figures, which relate to November 1983, the latest available, do not include vacancies notified to professional and executive recruitment offices or community programme vacancies. Moreover, the total numbers of vacancies notified to jobcentres are estimated to be only about one-third of all vacancies in the economy as a whole.
