asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether the experimental microcomputer welfare benefit information system is currently on trial in Edinburgh and in Scotland; and whether he will make the results of an independent evaluation of the system public in the spring.

The welfare benefits information system—WBIS—is on trial at the Department's Clydebank integrated local office, as well as at other sites in England.

I intend in due course to place a copy of the independent evaluation report on WBIS in the Library of the House.
