asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will take steps to permit the supply of knacker meat to all classes of greyhound training establishments; and if he will make a statement.

The Meat (Sterilisation and Staining) Regulations 1982 provide that only greyhound kennels licensed by the National Greyhound Racing Club may receive knacker meat. This arrangement is made possible by the existence of a central licensing body which controls its members activities. We do not intend to extend this arrangement to other dog establishments which lack such a control because it would add greatly to the difficulties of enforcing the regulations.
