HC Deb 06 March 1984 vol 55 cc503-4W
Mr. Harris

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the current threshold for investment income surcharge; and how this compares in real and actual terms with the figures for 1979.

Mr. Moore

The threshold for investment income surcharge for 1983–84 is £7,100. The corresponding figure for 1978–79 was £1,700—£2,500 where the taxpayer or his wife was aged 65 and over. In real term the threshold has increased by nearly 150 per cent. since 1978–79.
