§ Mr. Peter Lloydasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will reconstitute the Committee to advise Mr. Speaker and himself on matters relating to works of art in the House.
§ Mr. Patrick JenkinResponsibility for appointing members of the Advisory Committee on Works of Art in the House of Commons has, with Mr. Speaker's permission, recently been transferred from my right hon. and noble Friend the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster to myself.
I am pleased to announce that Mr. Speaker and I are now in a position to make such appointments. We have agreed that there should be nine members, and nine nominations have been put forward. They are the hon. Members for:
- Canterbury (Mr. Crouch)
- Staffordshire, South (Mr. Cormack)
- Twickenham (Mr. Jessel)
- Morecambe and Lunesdale (Mr. Lennox-Boyd)
- Eastleigh (Sir D. Price)
- Heywood and Middleton (Mr. Callaghan)
- Stockton, North (Mr. Cook)
- Warley, East (Mr. Faulds)
- Cambridgeshire, North-East (Mr. Freud).
My hon. Friend the Member for Canterbury has agreed to be Chairman. I hope that the Committee will hold its first meeting shortly.
