Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if any of the suggestions made by the European Commission and member states for establishing control over EEC spending involve an extension of the powers of the European Assembly over European Economic Community financial arrangements.

Mr. Rifkind

None of the suggestions made by the Commission and member states for establishing control over Community spending involves an extension of the powers of the European Parliament, which are laid down in article 203 of the treaty.
