asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will make a statement on the future of the assisted places scheme.

After three years' intakes, the assisted places scheme is clearly a success and is now a well accepted part of educational provision. I am sure it will go from strength to strength.

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what recent representations he has received concerning the assisted places scheme.

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what will be the cost to the Exchequer for the current financial year of the assisted places scheme.

The estimated cost is £16.5 million.
