HC Deb 05 March 1984 vol 55 c423W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans the Government have to increase the present network for monitoring nitrogen oxides and ozone in the atmosphere; and what is the number of sites envisaged.

Mr. Waldegrave

The Government are considering monitoring requirements for nitrogen dioxide in relation to the draft EC directive on an air quality standard for that pollutant. The question of baseline monitoring networks for nitrogen oxides and ozone was examined by the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution in its tenth report, and the Government are considering the Royal Commission's recommendation that the number of sites in these networks should be substantially increased.
