§ Mr. Harrisasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received from the Isles of Scilly branch of the National Farmers Union about an extension of the grants under the less-favoured areas scheme; and whether representations are being made on this to the European Economic Community Commission.
§ Mrs. FennerThe Government successfully achieved designation of the Isles of Scilly as a less favoured area in September 1982. Since then the islands have benefited from the additional assistance which is available only to less favoured areas. In consultation with the local branch of the National Farmers Union, my officials have produced a leaflet for farmers publicising the range of benefits available.
Representations have been received from a number of bodies, including the local branch of the National Farmers Union, concerning a programme of integrated development for the islands which might be supported by aid from 440W the European Communities. My officials are participating in a feasibility study of such a programme; the study is still at a very early stage and it is not possible to predict its outcome.
