HC Deb 05 March 1984 vol 55 c431W
16. Mr. Gwilym Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what are the numbers in employment in (a) Cardiff and (b) Wales; and how this compares with the trend for Great Britain.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

The most recent estimate for Wales, which excludes those in self-employment, is 883,000 in June 1983. There is no comparable figure for the Cardiff area as yet. On the basis of figures since the most recent census of employment in 1981 changes in levels of employees in employment have been broadly the same in Wales as in Great Britain.
