Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many Ulser Defence Regiment bases there were in (a) 1979 and (b) 1982; what is the present number; what is the Government's future policy in this regard; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lee

The number of UDR bases at 1 January 1979 and 1 January 1982 was 41 and 33 respectively. The present number is 29. No further changes are planned at present. Numbers of bases reflect the operational needs of the regiment.
