HC Deb 02 March 1984 vol 55 c382W
Mr. Leigh

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what recent representations he has had concerning help for the pig industry.

Mr. MacGregor

The main requests which we have received from pig farmers this year have been for an early introduction of aids to private storage, a better balance in future between feed and livestock prices and help with the funding of the Aujeszky's disease eradication programme. The first of these requests has been met with effect from 16 January. The second is in line with our continuing policy. It would be inappropriate to grant the third because the eradication programme was introduced on the understanding that compensatory costs would be funded by the industry.
