Dr. Hampson

asked the Secretary of Slate for Education and Science what was the secondary school population in Leeds in 1979 and 1983.

Mr. Dunn

The numbers of pupils in maintained secondary schools, including middle deemed secondary schools, in Leeds in January 1979 and 1983 were 73,747 and 69,687 respectively.

Dr. Hampson

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what was the pupil-to-teacher ratio in (a) primary and (b) secondary schools in Leeds in 1979 and 1983.

The pupil-teacher ratios within maintained primary and secondary schools in Leeds in 1979 and 1983 were as follows:

(2) how much money in real terms was spent on average on each child attending state secondary schools in Leeds in 1979 and 1983.

Net institutional recurrent expenditure by Leeds LEA on maintained secondary schools in the financial years 1978–79 and 1982–83 was as follows (at 1982–83 prices):
