HC Deb 02 March 1984 vol 55 c384W
Mr. Dubs

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the reason for the meeting between the Under-Secretary of State for Health and Social Security and the organisation, Freedom Organisation for the Right to Enjoy Smoking Tobacco, which took place on the day of the publication of the Royal College of Physicians' report, "Health or Smoking", and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten

The Department, of course, receives representations about the views of smokers and of non-smokers. The meeting which FOREST requested on 20 June 1983 and which took place on 23 November 1983 enabled it to give its views. The Government remain committed to doing all that they can to discourage cigarette smoking because of the serious risks to health.
