Mr. Hume

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what facts relating to Northern Ireland were

(ii) changes in the method of funding minor capital works;

(iii) the addition to recurrent grant from 1982–83 of compensation for loss of income resulting from the reduction of the undergraduate tuition fee in that year; and

(iv) the provisional nature of the grant allocations for 1983–84 and 1984–85, which do not include some elements of grant that remain to be allocated (£121 million in 1983–84 and £142 million in 1984–85).

The circumstances of students from England and Wales attending institutions in Northern Ireland were not given special weight in formulating the proposed new arrangements for students' travel costs. Consideration of what arrangements should apply to students from Northern Ireland is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
