§ Mr. MacGregorWe have received representations from the National Farmers Union and the National Pig Breeders Association. In addition, a number of Members of Parliament have written on behalf of their constituents.
As I told the House on 2 February, the European Commission is responsible for ensuring that no illegal state aid is given. We have been in continuous contact with the Commission from the outset on this matter. The Commission is continuing its inquiries with the French Government. We will not hesitate to pursue the matter further if the outcome is not satisfactory.
