HC Deb 01 March 1984 vol 55 c326W
44. Sir Michael Shaw

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the current size of the pig breeding herd; and how this compares with the size at the corresponding date in 1981.

Mr. MacGregor

In December 1983, the most recent period for which estimates are available, the pig breeding herd in the United Kingdom was 791,000 head, compared with 837,000 at December 1981, a fall of 5.5 per cent.
