46. Sir KennethLewis asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what are the present stocks of cereals in store in (a) the United Kingdom and (b) the European Economic Community; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MacGregorIntervention stocks of cereals on 10 February 1984, the latest date for which figures are available, were as follows:
000 tonnes In the United Kingdom In the EC Wheat 196 6,267 Barley 373 678 Rye — 216 Durum wheat — 666 Total 569 7,827 Offers of wheat and barley into intervention in the United Kingdom this season have been well below the levels of last season and, following sales of wheat and barley on the home market in 1983 and continuing sales of barley for export, stocks are some 1 million tonnes lower than on 11 February 1983.
Community stocks are about 900,000 tonnes down on a year ago.
