HC Deb 01 March 1984 vol 55 cc342-3W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if any stocks of biological and chemical weapons are maintained in the United Kingdom either under his control or under the control of any foreign country.

Mr. Stanley

No such weapons are maintained in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will take steps to ensure that no licences are granted for the export of any equipment which could be used in the manufacture or assembly of chemical weapons; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Pattie

Together with our allies, the UK is committed to achieving a verifiable, comprehensive ban on chemical weapons.

Export licences would not be granted for licensable equipment which could be used in the manufacture or assembly of chemical weapons in cases where it was thought that the equipment was intended for such use.
