§ Mr. John Carlisleasked the Secretary of State for Defence why the anticipated contribution of £290,000 towards the joint services yacht to compete in 1985 round-the-world race has been withdrawn.
§ Mr. LeeA service entry in the round-the-world yacht race would be incompatible with the Government's policy on links with South Africa since it would involve a stopover in Capetown for service men on duty and would carry the unavoidable risk of competing with South African entries, thereby contravening the Commonwealth statement on apartheid in sport.
