§ Mr. HurdFor those discharged from prison department establishments in 1983, having served a determinate sentence of imprisonment (excluding those sentenced in default of payment of a fine) the average length of sentence was about 13 months and the avarage time served under sentence (excluding any time spent on remand in custody) was about seven months. For those discharged in 1983 having served a sentence in default of payment of a fine, the average length of sentence imposed was about four weeks and the average time spent under sentence (excluding any time spent on remand in custody) was about two weeks.
