§ Mr. Skeetasked the Prime Minister whether she is satisfied with the level of international control over space; and whether she intends to propose amendments to the 1967 and 1972 treaties on this subject.
§ The Prime MinisterI see no need at present for amendments to the 1967 outer space treaty and the 1972 ABM treaty, which are important elements in preserving international peace and security. We remain anxious to 505W prevent an arms race in outer space. We are strongly in favour of action by the Geneva conference on disarmament which would contribute to this end. We also welcome the willingness of the United States Administration to discuss with the Soviet Union research programmes on strategic defence.
