§ Dr. Twinnasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what evidence he has as to trends in complaints in the past 12 months about defective imported light bulbs which have been made either directly to his Department or to trading standards officers.
§ Mr. FletcherRather more complaints about defective electric lamps, mostly of foreign origin, have been received from trading standards officers than in former years.
Very few complaints are received directly from the public and we have no information on the total number of complaints made directly to trading standards officers.
§ Dr. Marekasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what representations he has received regarding the need for greater consumer protection against dangerous or faulty light bulbs; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. FletcherI am not aware of any representations having been made recently regarding the need for greater 467W consumer protection against dangerous or faulty electric lamps. However, I do know that faulty lamps have been on sale recently and I appreciate the need for effective enforcement of our safety legislation.
