HC Deb 26 June 1984 vol 62 cc423-4W
Mr. William Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many Ulster Defence Regiment bases there were when the regiment was first formed; how many there are now; and if he will list the bases involved in each case.

Mr. Lee

Details of the numbers and locations of UDR bases at the time the regiment was formed in April 1970 are not readily available and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. However, details of the number of UDR bases in each of the past five years are as follows:

Numbers
1 January 1980 40
1 January 1981 34
1 January 1982 33
1 January 1983 29
1 January 1984 29

There are currently 29 bases. For reasons of security, these cannot be listed.
