HC Deb 26 June 1984 vol 62 c410W
Dr. Mawhinney

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many representations he has received since May 1979 to allow transcendental meditation to be available on the National Health Service; and from whom these representations have been received;

(2) what consideration he is giving to allowing transcendental meditation to be available on the National Health Service.

Mr. John Patten

I have not received any representations about the use of transcendental meditation in the NHS since 1979. The choice of treatment, including meditative techniques, is for individual doctors and health professionals in consultation with individual patients.
