HC Deb 26 June 1984 vol 62 cc438-9W
Mr. William Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is his estimate of the number of nights spent by angling tourists in Northern Ireland in each of the last five years for which figures are available; what is his estimate of the sums spent by such tourists in each of those years; and what is his estimate of the breakdown between game, sea and course anglers.

Mr. Butler

In 1983 it estimated that tourists specifically in Northern Ireland on angling holidays stayed some 15,000 bed nights in the Province and spent approximately £500,000. Most of these anglers were engaged in coarse fishing. No information on this subject is available in respect of earlier years.
