HC Deb 26 June 1984 vol 62 c391W
Mr. Walters

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will approve the proposal of the Manpower Services Commission to open a jobcentre in Westbury.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The Manpower Services Commission has approved in principle a strategy for the future development of the employment service. The number of jobcentres is planned to increase from 1,000 to about 1,100 or 1,200, making a staffed vacancy display and filling service more accessible to many people. However, definite decisions on the location of these jobcentres will not be taken until the autumn after a period of consultation with interested parties in each part of the country.
