§ 23. Mr. Colvinasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he has yet made a decision as to which yards are going to build the type 23 frigates and which are going to build the type 22 frigates on order.
§ Mr. LeeYarrows Shipbuilders Ltd is the lead shipbuilder for the type 23 frigate and negotiations are under way on the order for the first of class ship. We shall be seeking competition on orders for follow-on ships, so we cannot identify which yards will build these. As regards the type 22 frigates, I refer the hon. Gentleman to the reply I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Eastleigh (Sir D. Price) on 22 May, at column 432.
