HC Deb 26 June 1984 vol 62 c392W
Mr. Bulmer

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what help, and in what form, has been provided for the carpet industry in each of the last three years.

Mr. Peter Morrison

It is not possible to estimate exactly how the carpet industry has benefited over the past three years from programmes run by my Department and the Manpower Services Commission. However, in 1982–83 and 1983–84 the industry has received training grants totalling some £60,000 via its voluntary training organisation the Carpet Industry Training Council. The council has not yet submitted firm proposals to the Manpower Services Commission for funding in 1984–85.
