§ Sir Brandon Rhys Williamsasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the net cost in the current year and in 1984–85 if single person's allowance, married man's allowance, wife's earned income allowance, the additional personal allowance for single parents and age allowance were all replaced by tax credits of £11.50 for each person aged 16 years and over, with an extra £4 for each person aged 65 years and over, these amounts to be deducted from national insurance and other benefit entitlements including supplementary benefit and single parent benefit.
