§ Mr. Gwilym Jonesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what statistical information he requires from police authorities regarding their administration of the Firearms Act.
§ Mr. HurdPolice authorities are required to make an individual return to the Home Office of the results of each court proceeding, including offences under the Firearms Act. A list of such offences is given on page 237 of "Criminal Statistics, 1982" (Cmnd. 9048) and information is published on the results of such proceedings in "Criminal Statistics; Supplementary Volume 1". In addition, chief officers of police are required to submit annual returns showing the number of firearm and shotgun certificates on issue as at 31 December within their force areas.
