HC Deb 21 June 1984 vol 62 cc233-4W
Mr. Greenway

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the behaviour of participants in sporting events and its effect upon young people, spectators and the public.

Mr. Macfarlane

Competitors' behaviour during sports events is a matter generally for the governing bodies and specifically for the presiding officials. We must look to them to protect their sports. Bad behaviour and lack of sportsmanship exhibited by a small minority sets a bad example to young people and detracts from spectators' enjoyment of the game.
