HC Deb 21 June 1984 vol 62 cc231-2W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how he judges the performance of the London Docklands Development Corporation against the guidelines laid down by his Department in its memorandum of 5 February 1981.

Sir George Young

The hon. Member is presumably referring to the memorandum on planning and development control. I am satisfied that the corporation is carrying out efficiently the various duties devolved upon it as a development control authority and is properly carrying out the defined consultation processes.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what are the housing priorities of the London Docklands Development Corporation.

Sir George Young

LDDC's prime housing objective is to bring about significant improvement in the choice and quality of housing, principally by securing the construction of new dwellings and in particular topromote the growth of owner-occupation: secure a range of size and price; encourage housing associations and local authorities to participate in measures to promote mixed tenures on sites and foster balanced communities; release, where appropriate, land to local authorities to build housing for rental and shared ownership; and assist with the upgrading of rundown local authority estates.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will introduce legislation to require the London Docklands Development Corporation to admit the public to its meetings.

Sir George Young

No.
