HC Deb 21 June 1984 vol 62 cc222-3W
Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the number and nature of overseas development projects jointly funded by the member states of the European Community.

Mr. Raison

In 1983, £471 million was committed from the European development fund to 192 new projects in the African, Caribbean and Pacific states; £134 million was committed from the Community budget to 30 projects in non-associated developing countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa; and a further £54 million was committed to 14 projects in associated Mediterranean countries. These projects covered the full range of development activities. In addition, some £232 million was spent on food aid for 36 countries and five international organisations, some of which was connected with specific projects.
