HC Deb 14 June 1984 vol 61 cc550-1W
Mr. Burt

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he proposes to make any changes in the cash limit for the rate support grant vote.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

Subject to parliamentary approval of the necessary revised Estimate, the cash limit for Class XVIII, Vote 1 will be reduced by £475,000,000 from £9,323,000,000 to £8,848,000,000. This reduction reflects the proposed abatement of block grant for 1984–85 in accordance with the proposals in the "Rate Support Grant Repoli (England) 1984–85" (approved by the House on 23 January 1984) in the light of budgeted expenditure figures received from local authorities. It also takes account of a recovery of £44,000,000 block grant in respect of 1983–84 under the "Rate Support Grant Supplementary Report (England) (No. 2) 1983–84" (approved by the House on 20 March 1984) and a proposed recalculation of grant entitlements for 1981–82 and 1982–83 in the light of the latest information about outturn expenditure in each of those years. The proposed altered grant entitlements for 1984–85, 1981–82 and 1982–83 are subject to the approval of the requisite supplementary rate support grant reports, which I hope to lay before the House before the summer adjournment.
