HC Deb 14 June 1984 vol 61 c538W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry why the publication of the "Statistics on Direct Inward and Outward Investment by Companies" has been delayed this year.

Mr. Channon

There has been no delay. The summary results of the annual inquiry were published inBritish Business in May, as usual, and the "Business Monitor MA4—Overseas Transactions 1982", is expected to be published in July, the same month as last year.

Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will update the survey of direct inward and outward investment by companies, published on 13 May 1983, to show for an additional year (i) inward and outward investment in manufacturing from and to the European Economic Community, (ii) total inward and outward investment from and to the European Economic Community and (iii) similar information as in (i) and (ii) for the world as a whole.

Mr. Channon

Most of the information requested was published in theBritish Business article announcing the results of the 1982 annual inquiry into overseas transactions (see British Business 18 May 1984, pages 36–41). However the article does not include inward and outward investment in manufacturing from and to the EC, for which the figures are as follows. Full details of the results of the 1982 inquiry will be given in "Business Monitor MA4" overseas transactions, which is being prepared for publication.

United Kingdom net outward direct investment in manufacturing in the EC £122 million
EC net inward direct investment in United Kingdom in manufacturing £—50 million
