HC Deb 14 June 1984 vol 61 c568W
Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps are being taken to evaluate the full effect on Great Britain's horticulture of Spain's entry into the Common Market.

Mrs. Fenner

The steps being taken to evaluate the effects on British horticulture of Spain's entry to the European Community include inquiries in Spain by officials of my Department and discussions with the National Farmers Union and other interested parties. The full effects cannot be evaluated precisely as they will depend on the terms of entry negotiated between the Community and Spain as well as on the response of growers in both countries. My Department will continue to keep closely in touch with developments.
