HC Deb 14 June 1984 vol 61 c536W
Mr. Dubs

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what instructions were issued to Metropolitan police officers on Saturday 9 June regarding free movement of pedestrians in central London during the demonstration by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament; and whether any instructions were given about the treatment by the police of persons wearing Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament badges.

Mr. Hurd

The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis tells me that officers who were deployed to police the demonstration were instructed that pedestrians should, as far as possible, be enabled to have free passage along the highway. No instructions were given to officers about the treatment of people wearing Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament badges.
