HC Deb 14 June 1984 vol 61 c562W
Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he has any plans to enable farmers to have the right to benefit under the business expansion scheme; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Moore

[pursuant to his reply, 13 June 1984, c. 466]: Proposals are currently before Parliament, in clause 37 of the Finance (No. 2) Bill, to add farming to the list of trades excluded from the business expansion scheme. The relevant definition of farming is that in section 526 of the Taxes Act. Whether or not the activities of a particular company are covered by this definition will depend on all the facts, and on relevant case law. I have no plans to make other changes to the scheme in relation to farming.
