§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeThe fee paid to NHS hospital doctors for male sterilisation is:
Operating fee £ Anaesthetist fee £ i. as a separate procedure 36.35 17.90 ii. during the course of another procedure 24.60 11.90 The fee for female sterilisation is: i. as a separate procedure 49.20 24.05 ii. during the course of another procedure 32.90 16.10 We shall review these fees with effect from 1 April 1984 in the light of the recommendations of the Doctors and Dentists Review Body.
Hospital and community doctors may also carry out sterilisations on a sessional basis.
§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he will give a breakdown by region of the numbers of sterilisations performed on (a) men and (b) women in the last year for which figures are available;
(2) how many sterilisations have been performed under the National Health Service in each of the last 10 years for which figures are available on (a) men and (b) women.
