HC Deb 12 June 1984 vol 61 cc427-8W
Mr. Litherland

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) how many multi-occupied houses there are in England and Wales; and what percentages require improvement work to bring them up to satisfactory standards of repair and safety;

(2) if he will estimate the number of retired pensioners living in houses of multiple occupation; and what percentage live in substandard conditions.

Sir George Young

The information requested is not available to the Department. The Department is currently carrying out research which I expect to provide information on the number of houses in multiple occupation, their condition and their residents.
