§ Mr. Austin Mitchellasked the Prime Minister if she will ensure that no public funds are provided which will enable farmers who have received public funds to stop producing milk to produce other commodities in surplus.
§ The Prime MinisterThe only restriction in the Community provisions for assistance to be paid to producers who wish to get out of milk production is that they must give up production definitively. Further restrictions of the kind suggested are not appropriate and would be unenforceable. I would, however, expect that producers will consider very carefully before entering or increasing production of commodities in surplus.
