HC Deb 11 June 1984 vol 61 c363W
Mr. Nellist

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give a breakdown of the total number of pickets arrested from 1 June to 7 June, inclusive, by police force areas; and what information he has as to the nature of offences that those arrested have been charged with.

Mr. Ancram

From 1 June to 7 June 1984, both dates inclusive, a total of 153 arrests were made: 133 in the area of Fife constabulary; and 20 in the area of Strathclyde police. The majority of those arrested were charged by the police with breach of the peace and/or contravention of section 41 of the Police (Scotland) Act 1967 in connection with assaults on, or obstruction or hindrance of, the police. Ten persons were charged by the police with the same road traffic offence.
