HC Deb 08 June 1984 vol 61 c300W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list the arrangements for payments of benefits to people on Manpower Services Commission schemes who suffer industrial injuries; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The arrangements fall into two parts. People on a scheme operated by the Manpower Services Commission who have a contract of employment and who suffer an industrial injury are entitled to receive benefits under the Social Security Act 1975. People on a commission scheme who do not have a contract of employment are not eligible to receive these benefits, but the commission itself operates a scheme which is wholly analagous to the scheme run under the 1975 Act and involves the same payments.

Self-employed people are not covered by the 1975 Act or by the Manpower Services Commission scheme. I am satisfied that the present arrangements provide proper coverage for participants on commission schemes.
