§ Mr. Parryasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the dossier on human right violations committed by the Government of Indonesia sent to him by the parliamentary human rights group.
§ Mr. LuceI understand the strength of the concern of the parliamentary human rights concern group on the issues raised in the dossier. However, we do not believe that the Inter-Governmental Group on Indonesia is an appropriate forum to raise the subject, as it suggests.
The Indonesian Government are well aware of our general attitude towards human rights violations.
§ Mr. Parryasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if Her Majesty's Government raised the question of East Timor with the Australian Government at the recent inter-governmental conference on Indonesia held at The Hague.
§ Mr. LuceAs far as the inter-governmental conference is concerned, I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave to his earlier question. I have, however, had recent bilateral discussions with the Australian Foreign Minister about matters of mutual interest to the region, including Indonesia.
