§ Mr. Austin Mitchellasked the Prime Minister whether the Government will set up a scheme to compensate employees in the dairy industry for the loss of their jobs as a result of the reduction in output consequent upon decisions in the European Economic Community.
§ The Prime MinisterWhether there will be any job losses in the dairy industry following the introduction of the supplementary levy arrangements will depend on how the industry decides to adjust to the new supply situation. But provision for the compensation of employees who lose their jobs already exists in the form of the statutory scheme for redundancy payments provided for under the terms of the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978.
